Rio Dell Hires Kyle Knopp for City Manager Position

After a six-month search, the Rio Dell City Council has appointed Mendocino County Assistant Chief Executive Officer Kyle Knopp as its next top administrator. Knopp is replacing retiring City Manager Jim Stretch. He will start on July 21 at an annual salary of $106,000.

"I'm honored and excited to become a part of the team, serve the citizens of Rio Dell, work hard on improving the local services and getting the best service possible for the people," Knopp said.

Rio Dell is a city of about 3,250 people located along the U.S. 101 in Humboldt County.

Knopp was chosen from a field of about 40 applicants. Rio Dell Mayor Jack Thompson called him a respected and experienced leader.

“We deal with lots of different and challenging things and we’re very fortunate to have a person of his caliber,” Thompson added.

Knopp began his career in public service as an intern for Congressman Mike Thompson. He was later hired as Administrative Analyst for the Humboldt County Administrative Office and assumed the Assistant Chief Executive Officer position in 2012. He holds a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Humboldt State University and Masters of Public Administration from Sonoma State.
