VIDEO: A Comprehensive Guide to Proposition 42

Proposition 42 has important implications for local government, especially when it comes to increasing transparency. It looks to amend the state Constitution to assure that local governments are legally required to observe state public-access laws, and that the state will no longer be required to reimburse local governments for the cost of such compliance.

Many are in favor of the proposition’s ability to cement local government’s obligation to be transparenct to the public. Opponents are less in favor of the fact that the cost of such transparency will be shifted to local government.

It’s a complicated issue, but luckily the League of Women Voters has created a helpful video that breaks down everything you need to know about Prop 42 and its important local government implications. Check it out so you can make an informed decision when you hit the polls today.
