Grass Valley Councilman resigns amid child porn charges

Terry Lamphier, a former Nevada County supervisor elected to serve on the Grass Valley city council says he will resign.

The announcement comes after a two-month long investigation by local authorities into Lamphier’s possession of child pornography. Despite the investigation, Grass Valley resients elected him to the city council this fall.

Just days after being formally charged, Lamphier was sworn into office – but the calls for him to resign were untimately too much for him to survive.

Lamphier was greeted by a crowd of protesters gathered outside the city council chamber that day.

Wednesday, Lamphier’s lawyer Stephen Munkelt told CBS13 that his client will resign. No further comment would be given, Munkelt said.

Mayor Jason Fouyer confirmed to the Sacramento Bee that he had received an email Wednesday from Lamphier stating that he was tendering his resignation effective immediately. He did not state his reasons.

“We have a wonderful little community here,” Fouyer said. “But we’ve been having a rather ugly conversation for the last two months.”
