Pastor Hilton Emerges Victorious in Carson City Council Race

With nearly 37 percent of votes, Jawane Hilton edged out Jesus Alex Cainglet by some 141 votes. Four other candidates ran, but failed to tally comparable votes. Hilton vocalized support for a greater council transparency and reduced spending. He reinforced the message of transparency throughout his campaign saying, ”The city has been divided for far too long. You can’t lead the people if you don’t love the people.”

The victory comes after Hilton finished third in the March election that only had two vacancies. Hilton will fill the seat vacated by former Councilman Mike Gipson, who was elected to the state Assembly last year. Hilton’s strong performance in March garnered support from Gipson. Hilton will serve the remainder of Gipson’s original term, which expires March 2017.

Carson’s fifth council seat remains vacant. Jim Dear, who previously held the position, won the City Clerk election in March. That seat can be filled either by appointment or election.
