Glendale Hires New Fire Chief, Community Development Director

The City of Glendale has filled two key management positions with the appointment of Fire Chief Greg Fish and Community Development Department Director Philip Lanzafame during a closed session meeting on Tuesday.

Philip Lanzafame is replacing Hassan Haghani who departed in May for a similar position in Santa Ana. He had been serving as the city’s head of community development since 2010. Lanzafame holds a bachelor of arts from San Diego University and a masters in public administration from California State University Northridge.

Glendale fire department veteran Greg Fish will replace Harold Scoggins who now serves as fire chief for Seattle. Fish has been with the department since 1987 and was promoted to interim deputy fire chief last year.

“I am pleased we have the depth of expertise in our organization that we can name both Greg and Phil to top positions with their respective departments,” said Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian. “The institutional knowledge and expertise to maintain a Class 1 fire department and award winning Community Development Department is critical to the safety and quality of life we enjoy.”
