Santa Monica Assistant City Clerk Denise Anderson-Warren has been promoted, the City Council announced Tuesday. She will take over as city clerk at a generous base pay of $15,269 per month.
Anderson-Warren has been with the Santa Monica City Clerk’s Office for 21 years, making her “uniquely poised to run the City Clerk’s Office with her depth of experience managing elections and public records,” according to Mayor Tony Vazquez.
“She is widely respected within the department, City and the regional clerk community. Denise will serve our community with integrity and a strong vision for the future,” the mayor added.
Anderson-Warren began her work at the City Clerk’s Office as a staff assistant, going on to hold numerous positions over the years. Before coming to Santa Monica, she worked for California Emergency Services.
“It’s never boring,” said Anderson-Warren of her time with the City Clerk’s Office. “I can tell you in Santa Monica, there’s always something that comes up.” That is likely to hold true for Anderson-Warren going forward, as the office continues making the massive transition from paper to digital.
Anderson-Warren holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Redlands, with a minor in Political Science. She is replacing Sarah Gorman, who has held the position for the past several years.
