Solvang Hires New Top Administrator

Solvang has a new city manager.

On Monday night, the City Council voted unanimously to hire Indian Wells Community Development Director David Gassaway as its top administrator. Gassaway’s predecessor Brad Vidro retired on December 28 after 13 years with the city.

Solvang’s new manager is a graduate of San Diego State University with a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. He previously served as Assistant to the City Manager in Indian Wells and Assistant to the City Manager in Rancho Cordova. He currently serves on the International City/County Management Association (ICMS), the California City Management Foundation (CCMF), the Municipal Management Association of Southern California (MMASC), and the Alliance for Innovation, according to the city.

Solvang is a tourist-heavy city known for its Danish roots and architecture located in the Santa Ynez Valley. As of 2017, its population was just under 6,000.
