The New Art Installation Outside Laguna Beach City Hall is Rubbing Some People the Wrong Way

An art installation outside of Laguna Beach City Hall is eliciting controversy because – let’s face it – everything elicits controversy these days. Also, some just find it downright weird.

The display features statues of people engaged in various sports on the lawn outside City Hall. The strange part is that their faces are entirely covered by closed sweatshirt hoodies.

The artist, Mark Jenkins, says they’re supposed to be shielding themselves from the sun. It’s a commentary on outdoor sports “in the age global warming,” which literally no one would have ever guessed.

"They look like terrorists," one observer told CBS News. Others said they found the art unique and interesting.

The installation is scheduled to remain for the next three months.
