How Miserable is Your City?

Business Insider is out with its list of the most miserable cities in 2019. And before we spit on it, crumple it up, and toss it in the can, we thought we’d show you the results.

Gary, Indiana took the top spot, followed by Port Arthur, Texas. These were the top 5 most miserable cities:

1. Gary, Indiana

2. Port Arthur, Texas

3. Detroit, Michigan

4. Passaic, New Jersey

5. Newark, New Jersey

As you can see, no California city made the top 5. But after No. 9, it went downhill for the Golden State.

Huntington Park, CA came in at No. 10. Bell Gardens, Lynwood, El Monte, Palmdale, Montebello, Compton, San Bernardino, Hemet, and Lancaster also made the list.

Business Insider used U.S. Census data to develop the rankings. It analyzed 1,000 U.S. cities based on crime rates, drug addiction, population, jobs, commute times, median income, the number of abandoned houses, as well as natural disasters.
