This Interactive Map Shows the Fire Hazard of Every Building in California

California residents can now see all fire hazards in their neighborhood with the help of an interactive map from UCLA Geospatial.

The map shows all buildings in California, with classifications from CAL FIRE Fire Hazard Severity Zone. Input an address to see which buildings nearby are at very high, high, or moderate risk of fire. The map also shows which firefighting agency oversees the area.

The map was developed entirely “using free and open source software, including QGIS, Mapbox GL, Tileserver GL, and a Web server running a variant of Linux,” according to UCLA Geospatial.
