Sacramento Bee: FBI Probing Pot Shop Oversight in Sacramento
The Sacramento Bee has some new reporting on the controversy that has erupted over Sacramento’s legal marijuana industry. According to the Bee, the FBI is now investigating how the city regulates its marijuana dispensaries.
As we recently reported, Sacramento and its cannabis industry have found themselves on the periphery of the presidential impeachment scandal. The California Bureau of Cannabis Control says it is looking into a series of cannabis licenses granted to a Ukrainian-born businessman, Andrey Kukushkin, who was recently arrested in connection with an alleged straw donation scheme tied to Rudy Giuliani. The city has also launched an internal review.
Among other things, a federal indictment accuses Kukushkin and three others of planning to use a marijuana business to funnel foreign money to political campaigns in violation of federal law.
Nevertheless, the Bee says that the FBI query and the campaign finance indictment are separate.
