Oakland Drops Coliseum Suit Against Alameda County

Oakland will drop its lawsuit against Alameda County over the sale of the Coliseum to the Oakland A’s.

Mayor Libby Schaaf, Vice Mayor Larry Reid, and City Council President Rebecca Kaplan made the announcement on Wednesday.

“We’re dropping the suit because we’re pleased with our most recent discussions with the A’s and our shared interest in Oakland’s future,” the statement read. “We’re excited to enter into this next phase of negotiations with the A’s to ensure they remain rooted in Oakland!”

The lawsuit was filed on Sept. 27. It accused the county of violating the Surplus Land Act, under which public land must first be considered for affordable housing before being leased or sold.
