Coastal Commission Chair and Chula Vista City Councilman Steve Padilla was one of the first public officials in California to announce their diagnosis with COVID-19. After a rough patch that saw him hospitalized and placed on a ventilator, Padilla is now in recovery.
I’m so grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at @UCSDHealth who saved my life, and who are working tirelessly every day to save more. America’s healthcare professionals are true heroes showing undaunted courage on the frontlines of this fight.

Padilla tested positive for COVID-19 last month. He previously told Voice of San Diego that he does not know how he contracted the coronavirus. He attended a number of events in the weeks prior and traveled through the San Jose Airport, where several TSA officials have tested positive.
