Cerritos City Council Member Jim Edwards Passes Away

Cerritos City Council Member and former mayor Jim Edwards passed away Sunday, May 10, after a battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

Edwards had served on the City Council since 2005 and served as mayor twice from 2008 to 2009 and 2012 to 2013. He had just recently been re-elected to his Council seat.

Before joining the City Council, Edwards served as a Cerritos Parks and Recreation Commissioner. He was also a teacher at Richard Gahr High School for 30 years before he retired. His career in education included stints at Whitney Community Learning Center and a part-time teaching position at Cerritos College.

According to the city’s website, Edwards was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association and the Friends of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion Adoption Committee, as well as a volunteer photographer for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
