Pomona Councilman Arrested on Child Pornography Charges
Pomona City Councilman Rubio Gonzalez, 45, was arrested last week on suspicion of child molestation or annoyance and pornography possession, the Los Angeles Times reports. He was booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s San Dimas station Thursday and released the same day on $20,000 bond.
Gonzalez was first elected to the District 1 seat in 2016. He has also worked for several school districts over the years.
“While it is important to allow the legal system to determine his guilt or innocence, we are stunned and deeply concerned by Mr. Gonzalez’ arrest and the extremely serious nature of the criminal allegations,” City Spokesman Mark Gluba said in a statement.
Mayor Tim Sandoval said the city was “stunned and deeply concerned” by the allegations.
Officials are expected to call for a special meeting to discuss Gonzalez’s fate pending the criminal case.
