Upland City Councilman Resigns

Upland City Councilman Ricky Felix will attend his last city council meeting next week. Felix announced he was resigning this month, not even halfway through his first term. He is selling his business and moving with his family to Utah where he has a large community of family and friends.

“This was the hardest decision I ever had to make,” said Felix, as quoted by the Daily Bulletin.

Felix said he favors an interim appointment to replace him. The seat could then be placed on the November 3 ballot. Councilwoman Janice Elliott has said she believes it is better to leave the seat open until the election, so that no candidate gets undue advantage.

“Felix’s time on the council may have been short, but he made a mark,” notes the Bulletin. “He was an outspoken proponent of the recently approved Bridge Development Partners’ warehouse and package delivery center for northwest Upland, and he spoke out against a measure to ban rental evictions during the coronavirus pandemic, calling it a 'handout.' Eventually, the ordinance was repealed.”
