Labor Day weekend saw the highest temperature ever recorded in Los Angeles County. The weather station at Pierce College in Woodland Hills recorded a high of 121° on Sunday, breaking the previous record of 119 in 2006.
Burbank in Los Angeles County and Paso Robles in San Luis Obispo County broke their own records, with temps hitting 114° and 117° respectively. In San Francisco, it got up to 100°.
There were power outages across the state. The California Independent System Operator declared a Stage 2 emergency because of stress on the power grid.
Heat and dryness contributed to numerous fires being battled across California. This has been the most destructive fire season on record. More than 2,000,000 acres have burned.
