Alex Trebek’s Parting Gift to Angelenos: 62 Acres of Breathtaking Open Space

Beloved “Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek passed away this month after a bout with pancreatic cancer. In the wake of his passing, some Los Angeles leaders are remembering his contributions to the city.

Trebek didn’t just give Angelenos entertainment; he gave them precious open space.

“FYI, in the 1990's, Alex Trebek bought the 62 acres of land between Nichols Canyon and Runyon and donated it as public space for all of us to enjoy. It's called Trebek Open Space,” City Attorney Mike Feuer tweeted on Nov. 8.

Trebek purchased the land for $2 million in 1998. With trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, it is often described as one of L.A.’s best kept secrets. If you find yourself missing Alex, go for a run — and say thank you.
