California Expects All Adults to Be Vaccine-Eligible by Early May

You've got six more weeks to lose to lose the 15 pounds you gained in quarantine. Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday that he expects the coronavirus vaccine to be available for all Californians in early May.

Newsom’s statement aligns with a recent announcement from President Biden that all eligibility restrictions should be lifted nationwide by May 1, thanks to an expected increase in supply. All 255 million American adults would be eligible at that point.

California is currently prioritizing adults with certain medical conditions, including obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.

The mood is a positive one in California’s most populous county as well. Large shipments of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are expected this week. LA County is anticipating the arrival of 280,000 total doses from Moderna, Pfizer and J&J.

Despite plenty of hiccups, California’s vaccine rollout is moving along. As of Sunday, March 21, around 14.3 million doses had been administered. See more updates from the COVID-19 dashboard here.
