Some Piedmont Unified School District employees will receive free child care through the Recreation Department following a vote by the City Council last week.
Recreation Department fee waivers will be offered to Piedmont Unified School District employees with children who return to campus for live instruction.
“By offering safe, high-quality child care, teachers would have the opportunity to return to the classroom knowing their children are cared for in a location that is safe and observant of masking and social distancing,” said Mayor Teddy Gray King (East Bay Times).
A number of school districts are hearing child care concerns expressed by educators and other school staff. California’s largest school district, LA Unified, recently announced $500 monthly stipends for full-time employees with young children who return to campuses.
