Lancaster Mayor Launches Vaccine Scholarship Raffle

As vaccination rates have declined, local governments have been thinking of new ways to encourage inoculation — especially among young people.

One such idea is the 10K Vax Challenge announced by Lancaster Mayor Mayor R. Rex Parris last week. The mayor has offered a scholarship raffle for Lancaster students ages 16-18 who receive their COVID-19 vaccine by June 30. All of the prizes will be paid for directly from the mayor’s scholarship fund.

Those who get vaccinated can enter to win:

• A $10,000 scholarship (Grand Prize)
• A $5,000 scholarship
• A $50 gift card (20 winners)

To enter, participants must post a photo of themselves on social media stating they’ve gotten the vaccine. They’ll tag 5 friends and use the hashtags #10kVaxChallenge and #VaccinateLancaster.
