In LA County, the Mask is Back

They're baaaaack!

As of 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 17, face coverings are once again required in indoor public settings in LA County regardless of vaccination status. The mandate follows a spike in cases and hospitalizations — almost entirely among the unvaccinated — as the new, more contagious Delta variant spreads.

Health officials aren't necessarily concerned about vaccinated individuals contracting and spreading COVID-19. The concern lies is the inability to verify vaccination status among the unmasked.

LA may be alone in requiring mask use, but other counties are inching closer. Sacramento’s public health officer has recommended face coverings indoors where vaccination status can’t be verified. San Francisco, Yolo, Fresno, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Sonoma counties have also issued face covering advisories. If you recall, LA County issued a similar recommendation before the latest full-blown mandate.

As usual, the unvaccinated are the reason we can’t have nice things.
