Victorville City Councilwoman Blanca Gomez has a knack for getting carried away in handcuffs. She was arrested last Tuesday for obstructing sheriff's deputies who were trying to escort an audience member out of the council chambers. And ti wasn't the first time.
“During agenda item number 17, [attendee Robert Daniel Rodriguez] caused a disruption inside Council Chambers that prevented the Council from conducting its business meeting,” according to a city statement. “As a result, Mayor Jones was forced to ask Sheriff’s Deputies to remove Rodriguez from City Hall so that the City Council could resume the meeting and conduct its business.
Soon thereafter, Council Member Gomez left the dais and interfered with the Deputies’ efforts to escort Rodriguez from City Hall. Within minutes, the Deputies were forced to restrain and arrest both Council Member Gomez and Rodriguez as an altercation occurred led by Gomez.”
Gomez was taken to the High Desert Detention Center and booked on resisting/obstructing a peace officer and obstructing the business of a public agency. The City has described her behavior as “erratic and volatile,” adding that it “caused us all to fear for the safety of our Council Members, staff and community members in attendance.”
This is the second time in three years that Gomez has been arrested for behavior inside a government facility. In 2018, she was arrested at Hesperia City Hall after refusing to leave an area that was closed to the public.
