WalletHub Ranks Best and Worst-Run Cities in California

The past year was a make or break moment for many state and local governments. The COVID-19 pandemic put every municipality to the test. Some rose to the occasion. Others floundered.

The credit website WalletHub decided to compare 150 of America’s largest cities to see which ones passed its test of efficient, responsible government — and which ones could use some help. It based its findings on 38 metrics across six main categories: 1) Financial stability 2) Education 3) Health 4) Safety 5) Economy 6) Infrastructure

Huntington Beach was ranked the best-run city in California at #20. It was followed by San Diego and Santa Ana at #62 and #63 respectively. Ranking dead last were the cities of San Francisco (#149) and Oakland (#144).

Nationally, Idaho took the top two spots. Nampa was rated the best-run city in America, followed by Boise. Rounding out the top 5 were Fort Wayne, Indiana; Nashua, New Hampshire; and Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky.
