Foster City Parts Ways With Its Top Administrator

Foster City’s top administrator Peter Pirnejad was terminated during a closed session of the city council last week after less than one year on the job.

City officials have not disclosed the reason for their decision. It took effect immediately. Foster City Police Chief Tracy Avelar has been named acting city manager.

Mr. Pirnejad is an award-winning local government professional who had previously served as the assistant city manager of Napa and as Development Services Director for the City of Palo Alto.

Foster City’s politics have been divided for some time. There were controversies surrounding the tenure of its last city manager Jeff Moneda. He resigned in April 2020 and now works as San Diego County’s Director of Public Works.
