Palos Verdes Estates has chosen a 40-year law enforcement veteran to lead the city on a temporary basis.
Sharon Papa, who retired as Hermosa Beach’s police chief in September 2019, was recently appointed interim city manager by the city council. She will fill the vacancy left by Laura Guglielmo, who announced her resignation last month.
Papa has led a long and impressive career. Before serving as the first female chief of Hermosa Beach’s PD, Papa led the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police, which has since become part of the LAPD.
Papa was forced to retire from law enforcement two years ago due to her diagnosis with ocular melanoma, a type of cancer that affects the eye.
