La Habra Councilman Tim Shaw resigns from OC Board of Education
Tim Shaw has resigned from his Fourth District seat on the Orange County Board of Education. The decision comes after his 2020 election bid raised questions about the legality of an elected official serving concurrently in two different positions. Shaw has been a member of the La Habra City Council since 2008.
In a statement, Shaw says he believes that he isn’t violating any laws but did not want to potential spend “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in litigation costs to fight for his seat.
The Board now has 60 days to either fill the appointment until the next regularly scheduled election in June 2022 where the seat will be up for the remaining two years of the term, or hold a special election.
