Santa Monica to Hire Fresno’s City Attorney

Last week, California City News reported on the coming departure of Fresno City Attorney Douglas Sloan. At the time, we only knew he had accepted a position somewhere in Southern California. Now we’ve gotten more details on where he’s headed.

Sloan is the City of Santa Monica's choice for City Attorney. City leaders put an employment agreement with Sloan on the agenda for Tuesday, May 10.

For the past two years, Santa Monica’s City Attorney post has been held by interim appointees. Currently, Deputy City Attorney Susan Cola serves as Interim City Attorney. She replaced Interim City Attorney Joe Lawrence less than two months ago. Before Lawrence, George Cardona was also serving on an interim basis.

Santa Monica’s last permanent City Attorney was Lane Dilg, who left to become Interim City Manager in April 2020.
