Lakeport City Councilmember Michael S. Green has been appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to the open seat for Lake County Board of Supervisors District 4.

The vacancy was created by the resignation of Tina Scott at the end of July. Scott, who has long been known for her love of baking, now works as a food and hospitality teacher at Clear Lake High School. A delay in the replacement process necessitated a gubernatorial appointment and has raised questions in Lake County.

“Green, a former journalist who has been active in the cannabis industry, was president of the Lake County Growers Association from 2016 to 2019, campaign treasurer for Yes on Measure C in Lake County in 2016 and campaign treasurer for Yes on Measure A in the city of Fresno in 2018,” according to Lake County News.

“He served on the Lakeport Planning Commission from 2017 to 2021. Green has been a member of the Lakeport City Council since 2021, the same year he began working as a staff services analyst at the Lake County Department of Social Services.”

Green is resigning from the Lakeport City Council. He will serve out the remainder of Scott’s term, until the first Monday after Jan. 1, 2025.

Green is the second Lakeport council member to leave for a county job in recent months. In August, Mireya Turner stepped down from the City Council to serve as Lake County Community Development Director.
