Jorge Garcia has been chosen as the next city manager of Pismo Beach. The city council is expected to approve his contract on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Garcia has been serving as interim city manager since Jim Lewis took the top administrator position in Atascadero four months ago. Since 2018, Garcia has served as assistant city manager and management services director for Pismo. Previously, he served as Assistant to the City Manager in Santa Ana.
“This has been a dream of mine since I first interned over 15 years ago,” Garcia wrote in a post on LinkedIn. “It has been a lot of hard work, dedication, risk, and above all, relationships that have led me to this moment.”
In a formal statement, Garcia said he was “humbled” by the chance to lead, adding that he remained “committed to making Pismo Beach the standard of excellence, innovation and impact, as we continue the city’s positive trajectory.”
Mayor Ed Waage praised Garcia’s “wealth of knowledge” and experience in public administration.
Garcia is expected to earn an annual salary of $245,661 plus benefits.
