Whistleblowers are a trending hot topic in California city halls. Following testimony from several former City employees, Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken and Councilwoman Natalie Rubalcava are proposing several reforms to protect city hall whistleblowers.
While the efforts look great on paper, the issue of why Anaheim even needs whistleblowers still isn’t being fully addressed – Disney’s financial influence on city council races.
The Anaheim City Council began to dissect this at the Oct. 24 meeting where members debated the details of proposed lobbying laws. The corruption investigation that has shrouded the City has alleged that a series of lobbying violations took place.
This is just a start of many reforms the City Council will be discussing in light of a scandal that for many residents has been a long time coming.
