A group of Solano County community leaders has formed a coalition to oppose California Forever — a sprawling new city backed by Silicon Valley billionaires.
Supporters of the Solano Together Coalition include Suisun Mayor Pro-Tem Princess Washington, Fairfield Mayor Kat Moy, Solano Farm Bureau President William Brazelton, and Vallejo Councilmember Charles Palmares.
The coalition’s official launch was Sunday, February 4.
Congressman John Garamendi, an outspoken critic of the California Forever project, explained that “training programs, the air flights for the C5 and C17 and aerial tankers will not be able to do the training and many of the ongoing logistical activities cannot be done if there is a city to the east.”
Solano County Supervisor Mitch Mashburn complained that the plan still lacked critical details.
“We won’t have a chance to provide feedback or consider an alternative growth scenario which would be typical,” Mashburn added.
Last month, California Forever organizers released language for a ballot measure that would greenlight the new project. In exchange, they’re promising parks, grants, and down payment assistance to residents. The organizers are hoping to get the measure before Solano County voters in November.
