Job Description
The City of Huntington Beach invites applications for an experienced, forward thinking, and innovative leader to serve as its next City Manager. The City organizes its operations through 11 major departments, including Administrative Services, City Manager’s Office, Community Development, Community & Library Services, Finance, Fire, Police, and Public Works, along with the City Attorney’s Office, City Clerk’s Office, and City Treasurer’s Office. The City is supported by nearly 1,500 employees and has a General Fund budget of $227.9 million (total budget $424 million). The City of Huntington Beach maintains an AAA credit rating. Huntington Beach was ranked as the best-run city in California by Wallethub in 2021.
Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying. A typical combination includes: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field. Eight years of proven experience in Public Management or Administration, including at least five years as a General Manager or Administrator of a major organization.
The salary range is up to $310,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience of selected candidate. Salary is supplemented by a benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
