See the full recruitment brochure here The Sonoma County Library (Library) is seeking a Deputy Library Director to oversee the functions of the Public Services, Facilities, Collection Services, Community Engagement, and Information Technology Divisions within the 14 branch Library system. We are seeking a forward-thinking, steadfast leader to supervise six direct reports and support the Library Director in overseeing 300+ staff and an approximate budget of $51.3 million. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated staff in leading an exceptional library system in California’s beautiful wine country.
The Deputy Library Director will serve as a thought partner to the Director, bringing innovative ideas to the conversation and the ability to step into the Director’s role during their absence. This role requires candidates to have a background working with labor groups, using interpersonal skills to foster productive, positive relationships. The ideal candidate will be eager to help their team grow through feedback and hands-on goal setting and will be a big picture thinker who is collaborative by nature. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will be an exemplary project manager who is eager to see things come to fruition. They can overcome obstacles through creative problem solving and strategic thinking. Strong labor and contract negotiation experience coupled with experience overseeing multiple branches in an urban library setting is highly desired. The successful candidate will have a professional demeanor and will be able to maintain composure in challenging and stressful situations. This position is expected to adjudicate patron complaints, speak publicly in a variety of settings, and interact with elected officials. This leader will serve as a motivational and uplifting performance manager who is able to give constructive feedback and set goals for their team. Big picture thinking, perspective taking, and a collaborative spirit are all essential to this position. Someone who is an avid relationship builder and hands-on leader will thrive as the Deputy Library Director.
