Educators from six school districts in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties will soon be eligible to apply for rentals at an affordable housing complex in Palo Alto.
Officials from both counties held a ceremony Tuesday at the site of the forthcoming complex on 231 Grant Avenue. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
“Great communities need great schools. Great schools need great staff members. And if those staff members can’t live or work here, because of the cost of housing, we’re all paying the price," said Santa Clara County District 5 Supervisor Joe Simitian, as quoted by KTVU.
The complex’s 110 units are being built through a public-private partnership that includes Mercy Housing California (MHC), Abode Communities, and the City of Palo Alto.
Another affordable housing complex for teachers is being planned for the city of Cupertino.
