Accounting Supervisor

Under general direction, supervises and performs difficult professional-level accounting and financial record-keeping activities; is responsible for day-to-day management of general accounting functions (payroll, accounts payable and receivable), general auditing; manages special projects as required; supervises assigned account clerical and technical staff; and performs related work as required.

Plans, organizes and staffs the operational and day-to-day activities of general accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable Directs the maintenance of records and preparation of financial reports Perform professional accounting activities; oversee and perform complex reconciliations and analyses; post information for assigned accounting activities into the general ledger, Audit bank reconciliations Manage the maintenance, modification, operation, and implementation of assigned module(s) on the City’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System; identify and resolve ongoing functional and technical issues; coordinate and test system modifications; recommend operational and procedural changes to the system as necessary. Test complex system upgrades on a quarterly basis; analyze data to determine impact on assigned module(s) Oversee, review and prepare a variety of journal entries, including accounts receivable aging analyses; audit and post cash receipts Coordinates preparation of annual financial report, including preparation of closing entries, insuring appropriate format to meet State standards and assisting with independent auditors for year-end review Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for assigned accounting functions, services, and activities; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; ensure compliance with related regulations (e.g. IRS, PERS, EDD); ensure timely filing of reports, tax returns, and related items Monitors miscellaneous revenue programs for accuracy of revenues reported Assists with City budget preparation

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Accounting, Business Administration or closely related field. AND Four (4) years of varied progressive professional-level accounting experience and training (emphasis in municipal accounting, financial analysis and financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable and/or accounts receivable), including one (1) year of supervisory experience. Experience in information systems technology, as it applies to accounting, is desirable.
