The Accounting Supervisor performs responsible professional accounting work including the maintenance, compilation, and review of financial records; prepares various reports and financial statements; interprets and applies GASB pronouncements and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. In addition, the Accounting Supervisor is responsible for developing, improving, and implementing accounting systems and procedures and daily supervision of the front-line staff of the Finance Department. The minimum qualifications for the position are a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Accounting, Business Administration, or Public Administration. CPA (certified public accountant) and/or CIA (certified internal auditor) designation preferred. Five (5) full-time years of experience in municipal and or public accounting and financial work including at least two years of direct supervisory experience over professional and technical staff is also required. Recent experience in municipal accounting and auditing is highly desired.
