The City of Ventura is hiring!   The Assistant Finance Director/Treasurer is a vital position within the City’s Finance and Technology Department.  The position is responsible for planning, directing, managing, and supervising the City's Accounting, Treasury, and Financial Planning & Analysis Divisions within the Department.  The Assistant Finance Director/Treasurer provides professional and technical assistance to the Finance & Technology Director and serves as a division manager on the Finance & Technology Department management team.  This position may act as the Finance & Technology Director in that position's absence.

The ideal candidate for this position will 1) have extensive knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of local government financial administration, including purchasing and generally accepted accounting principles for state and local governments, 2) demonstrate leadership success in a comparable financial organization, 3) have a deep understanding of financial challenges and opportunities, 4) be an experienced financial subject matter expert with a commitment to public service, and 5) provide staff leadership and perpetuate a helpful and supportive culture, while also working within governmental accounting practices. 
This position is designated as "at will," serving at the pleasure of the appointing authority, and subject to discharge without cause and right of appeal.
Salary and Benefits

The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary plus excellent benefit! Salary:  $125,169 - $167,727 Annually DOQ.
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, business or public administration, or a closely related field, and five years of increasingly responsible experience in financial management, cash, investment, debt or revenue management, accounting or auditing, including two years of experience in the direct supervision of professional finance staff is required.

Experience in a local California government agency is preferred. Possession of a master’s degree in public or business administration and/or certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly desirable.

License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required.

Certificate:  Must obtain a California Municipal Treasurer certification within two years of appointment to the position.
