The City of Sacramento seeks their next Chief of Police to lead the Police Department’s daily operations, represent excellence in policing, and champion the Department’s mission of working in partnership with the community to protect life and property, solve neighborhood problems, and enhance the quality of life for Sacramento residents.  The Chief of Police will report directly to the City Manager and directly oversee 755 sworn officers, including three Deputy Police Chiefs, and 348 professional staff (non-sworn) members across four offices: Office of the Chief (OOC), Office of Operations (OOO), Office of Investigations (OOI), and Office of Specialized Services (OSS). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role on the City’s Executive Team and will be responsible for developing and communicating the mission and vision of the Department, and managing the department’s workforce, annual budget, and administrative services. THE JOB & IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Chief of Police (Chief) reports to the City Manager and is responsible for leading the Police Department’s (Department) daily operations, representing excellence in policing, and championing the Department’s mission of working in partnership with the community to protect life and property, solve neighborhood problems, and enhance the quality of life for Sacramento residents.  This position will guide the Police Department’s goals, objectives, policies, and priorities and will provide direct oversight of the Department’s operations, as well as represent the Department to other City departments, Elected Officials, State/Federal/Local agencies, public and private organizations, and the general public.
