The City of Long Beach (pop.470,000) is a diverse full-service and vibrant award-winning city consisting of 6,000 employees and 14 departments including the Long Beach Airport. The successful candidate will lead a government that values innovation, diversity and inclusion, while delivering quality customer service equitably to all segments of the Long Beach community. The City Manager will be a visionary who embraces “best practices” in leading a municipal organization and have a track record of outstanding fiscal, communications, people, organization, strategic and economic development success.
Appointed by and reporting to the City Council, the City Manager must possess tremendous leadership skills and be able to foster a great working relationship with the Mayor and Council, and a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders. Competitive candidates will have demonstrated experience in performance management, civic engagement and a passion for public service.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration or a closely related field and ten years of progressively responsible executive management experience is required. Prior city management level experience is desirable.
