The City of Coronado is seeking qualified applicants to serve as City Manager of this beautiful and historic beachside community in San Diego County. Rich in history, natural beauty, and a charming ocean village atmosphere, Coronado is most deserving of its royal “nickname” – the Crown City. The City is governed by a Mayor and four Council members who serve staggered four-year terms. The City employs 249 full-time employees and a seasonal/temporary workforce that ranges between 100 - 200 throughout the year. The City has a General Fund revenue of $49 million, a total operating budget of approximately $93 million, and an underlying AAA rating from Moody’s. The City Manager is the administrative head of the municipal government under the direction and control of the City Council, responsible for personnel, budget and procurement, and all City operations. The City Manager's Office manages and directs the Capital Improvement Program including major facilities and infrastructure projects. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A Master’s degree in public or business administration is highly desirable. Hands on experience as a proven city manager is strongly preferred however, a highly successful assistant city manager in a community of similar size and complexity to Coronado may be considered. Private sector experience and knowledge of planning and community development is a plus. Critical skills and experience include a strong budget and finance background, experience working in a California coastal community, land use, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in written form. The City Council is seeking a candidate who is willing to make a long- term commitment to the community for a period of at least five years. The City of Coronado offers a competitive compensation package. Salary is open depending on qualifications and experience. The current City Manager’s salary is approximately $250,000.
