The City of Ventura is hiring!  We have an immediate vacancy for the position of Community Outreach Specialist. The Community Outreach Specialist is part of the City’s communications team and support communication efforts for individual Departments and City-wide initiatives. The Community Outreach Specialist, under general supervision of the City's Communications Manager/Public Information Officer in the City Manager’s Office, will be responsible for developing, planning, coordinating, and implementing a wide variety of advertising, marketing, public relations, communications strategies and community outreach campaigns for the City and various City Departments.  Community Outreach Specialists are assigned to support individual City departments but will also support other departments and City-wide outreach efforts as necessary.
The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for writing media releases, articles, advertising copy, presentations, video content creation, newsletters, project and program information notices and other marketing collateral. This assignment will include promoting community involvement and education in City initiatives through cooperative communication programs with respective City departments and the public. The Community Outreach Specialist will also work with all departments to ensure consistency in messaging and branding of the City including the City’s website, printed and digital outreach materials, public presentations, advertising, social media platforms, education activities, and media relations. Assignments may also assist in the planning, development, implementation and coordination of community engagement and outreach events, data research and analysis, creation and execution of surveys and studies, making recommendations to enhance visibility of programs and services, organizing, and overseeing public relations campaigns, and providing administrative support.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to develop and utilize a variety of communication forms, including visual, written, and public speaking; respond to a wide variety of requests and inquiries from the City and general public; multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines; and work flexible hours, nights and occasional weekends, dependent on the needs of the City. 

Salary and Benefits

The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary plus excellent benefits!

Salary: $33.86 - $45.37 Hourly DOQ


A combination of training, education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, media, fund raising, public relations or communications, including some supervision and coordination of major functions is required.
