The Community Recreation Division provides recreation and active living programs plus permit services at the City’s parks, beach and recreation facilities. The Division manages the City’s award-winning Swim Center, offering recreational and lap swimming, swim instruction, specialty classes, and competitive swimming opportunities; adult sports leagues; the Memorial Park Gym; The Cove Skate Park; and Playground Partnership providing community access to school playgrounds during non-school hours. The Division develops policies and issues permits for use of facilities, BBQ picnic areas, fields, courts, and for community events. The Division manages several community garden locations and is also responsible for coordination of film permits in parks and at the beach. The Division also collaborates with the Cultural Affairs Division to offer swimming and recreational programming at the Annenberg Community Beach House, a public beach club on Santa Monica State Beach.
This position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, recreation management, one of the behavioral sciences or a related field and six years of recent, paid experience in the administration of community services, recreation or similar social programs which has included program planning and development. At least two years of the experience must have included management and supervisory responsibilities.
