The City is located in Southern California and is a popular tourist destination, nestled in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest at an elevation of 6,752’.  Visitors and residents enjoy the beautiful alpine lake, mountain ski resorts and four seasons of outdoor recreational opportunities. Big Bear Lake is located approximately two hours from  major metropolitan cities, such as Los Angeles and San Diego.  The City’s year-round population is approximately 5,500 residents, but the community welcomes between 20,000 to 100,000 weekend and holiday visitors depending upon the season and special events schedule.

The Director of Tourism Management is a management level position responsible for a wide variety of professional duties that develop strategies, programs, and policies to promote responsible tourism, effectively manage the impacts of tourism on the community, and stimulate economic development through tourism. On behalf of the City, this position will collaborate with local organizations such as; Visit Big Bear, the Big Bear Lake Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) Board and the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce and will serve as the staff liaison to event organizers and other governmental partners. In addition, the successful candidate will administer the City’s Transient Private Home Rental (TPHR) program, coordinate any related TPHR/citywide code  compliance issues, and will oversee the City’s Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) and TBID registration, permitting and remittance process.  Overall, this position will continually work to promote tourism while responsibly managing community impacts resulting from the City’s thriving tourism based economy.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible professional experience involving tourism and/or economic development, event coordination, and        enforcement of administrative rules and regulations; four years supervisory experience.

Education: A bachelor’s degree in public/business administration, public relations, tourism/hospitality or a closely related field.

Municipal governmental administrative experience is highly desirable.

Annual Salary Range $130,270 - $158,870 Based Upon Qualifications.
