The City of Stockton is seeking to fill a Emergency Communication Dispatch Manager position in the Stockton Fire Department. The Emergency Communication Dispatch Manager is a management-level position receiving direction from the Fire Chief. The position is characterized by the responsibility to develop and implement policies, procedures, and operating standards. The incumbent continuously evaluates the efficiency and maintenance of all communication equipment and systems in the Emergency Communications Division. This classification has broad discretion and makes independent judgments within the overall policy guidelines established by the department. The incumbent is part of the Fire Department Management Team.

The ideal candidate will lead by example, be a mentor to staff, and have a successful track record of leadership and conflict resolution. The successful candidate is a “big picture” visionary with excellent general management skills and the ability to effectively build the Emergency Communication Center’s organizational capacity. Creativity and exceptional problem-solving skills are essential, as well as the ability to develop trusting personal relationships among and between department staff and community members.

Education/Experience:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in fire administration, public administration, business or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in an emergency communications dispatch center, which includes at least two (2) years of dispatch supervisory experience. Additional supervisory dispatch manager experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in fire administration, public administration, business or related field may be substituted for one year of work experience. To apply, view the City’s website.
