The City of Oxnard's Public Works Department is seeking an Equipment Operator with strong technical and customer service skills to be part of the Streets Division team.  This individual must be comfortable performing construction, maintenance, and repairs of equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment.  This position will be responsible for providing operation of light, medium, and heavy duty construction equipment.

Under general supervision, operates a variety of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment; inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment; maintains equipment maintenance records; performs semi-skilled and skilled duties in the repair and maintenance of streets, rights of way and related facilities; performs a variety of other tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility; performs related duties as assigned.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Equipment Operator is the journey level class responsible for independently operating and maintaining light, medium and heavy equipment and for performing a variety of maintenance and repair work on streets, rights of way and related facilities.  Incumbents may serve as a crew leader, and must be able to exercise judgment and initiative. This series is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Street Maintenance Worker in that the latter performs duties involving a higher level of complexity and difficulty and is responsible for overall supervisory responsibility for the Street Maintenance Division.

WORK SCHEDULE:   
Standard hours of operation are 7:00 AM-4:30 PM, Monday-Thursday, and alternate Fridays, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. This position is eligible for overtime pay.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
The equivalent of three (3) years of experience in the.
A high school diploma, or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in the operation of heavy construction equipment.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATION and OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  
Possession of a valid unrestricted Class "A" California driver's license.
