The City of Ventura is hiring! We are accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I/II – Water Distribution Operator I/II/III. There are currently two (2) vacancies that the City is looking to fill immediately.
Incumbents work under general supervision and are required to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled heavy manual work.  The work is done alone or as a member of a crew, in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, wastewater systems, storm drains, water systems, graffiti abatement or related public works and utility functions.

The current vacancies are in the Water Distribution section, however, the Maintenance Worker I/II eligibility list established with this recruitment may be used to fill current as well as future vacancies in any section, including Water, Wastewater or Streets.

When assigned to the Water System Section, positions are flexibly allocated up through the Water Distribution Operator I/II/III levels and may be filled at any level depending on the experience and certification levels of the applicant.

Incumbent may be required to work stand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame. Standby assignment is at the discretion of the Division Head.

Salary and Benefits

The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary plus excellent benefit!
Maintenance Worker I/II: $18.62 -- $25.77 DOQ
Water Distribution Operator I/II/III: $24.02 -- $33.24 DOQ


Qualifications
Maintenance Worker I: Six months of construction, maintenance, or related work experience.

Maintenance Worker II: A combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to one year as a Maintenance Worker I (18 months related experience).

Water Distribution Operator I: A combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to 18 months of related maintenance experience or one year of experience as a Maintenance Worker I, and possession of a valid California Water Resources Control Board Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator certificate. 

Water Distribution Operator II: A combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to 18 months of related maintenance experience or one year of experience as a Water Distribution Operator I, and possession of a valid California Water Resources Control Board Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator certificate.

Water Distribution Operator III:  Possession of a valid California Water Resources Control Board Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator certificate.


License / Certificates:

Maintenance Worker I/II
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required upon employment. Within 6 months of employment, incumbent is required to obtain and thereafter maintain, the following licenses:

Water: California Class A driver license with the following endorsements/restrictions: Auto Transmission and Air Brakes Restrictions - No Endorsement. Pursuant to the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, drug testing is required.

Wastewater: California Class A driver license with the following endorsements/restrictions: Auto Transmission and Air Brakes Restriction - Tanker Endorsement. Pursuant to the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, drug testing is required. CWEA Wastewater Collection certification is desirable.

Streets: California Class A driver license with the following endorsements/restrictions: Auto Transmission and Air Brakes Restrictions - No Endorsement. Pursuant to the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, drug testing is required.

Facilities: California Class C driver license required upon employment.

A pre-employment medical examination is required before appointment is made.

Water Distribution Operator I/II/III
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required. Within 6 months of employment, incumbent is required to obtain and, thereafter, maintain a valid California Class A license with Auto Transmission and Air Brakes Restrictions - No Endorsement. Department of Transportation (DOT), drug testing is required.

Water Distribution Operator I: Possession of a valid California Water Resources Control Board Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator certificate.

Water Distribution Operator II: Possession of a valid California Water Resources Control Board Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator certificate.

Water Distribution Operator III: Possession of a valid California Water Resources Control Board Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator certificate.
