With a diverse population of 520,000, Fresno is the fifth-largest City in California, the 34th largest City in the country and serves as the financial, industrial, trade, and commercial capital of California’s central San Joaquin Valley. The Fresno Police Department (FPD) is committed to continuously building community support and trust as its foundation of success. The Department is supported by 1,122 positions (835 sworn and 287 civilian) and a FY2019 adopted budget of over $180 million.
The City is seeking a contemporary leader with deep roots in community policing. The ideal candidate will have a reputation for building and maintaining community trust and productive partnerships that serve to enhance public safety and peacekeeping. Experience serving an ethnically and culturally diverse community is strongly preferred. Ten years of increasingly responsible law enforcement management experience and a Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree and/or completion of formal leadership development is desirable.
