Salary range from $93,125.11 - $113,194.15 and a recruitment bonus of $10,000.00

The City of Clearlake, with a population of approximately 15, 200 is located in northern California on the shores of Clear Lake. The lake is possibly the oldest natural freshwater lake in North America. The volcanic activity forming the landscape produced a dramatic countryside including dormant volcano Mount Konocti, rising to 4,300 feet above sea level, with the city consisting of relatively flat terrain in the valley along the lakeshore to rolling hills. Clearlake is the larger of two incorporated cities in Lake County. Clearlake has the nations cleanest air, and offers year round recreation activities including hiking, bird watching, rock hounding, golfing, bicycling, flying, wine tasting, hunting and horseback riding, not to mention Clearlake is ranked in the top four bass fishing lakes in the nation.

The City of Clearlake is seeking a Public Works Director with experience in management responsibility for all Public Works Department services and activities. These responsibilities include street maintenance, sidewalk maintenance, drainage maintenance, building maintenance, and park maintenance. Additional responsibilities include managing the development and implementation of Public Works Department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned service area; establish, within City policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; allocate resources accordingly, continuously monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assessing and monitoring work load, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifying opportunities for improvement; direct the implementation of charges. This position will also include representing the Public Works Department to other City departments, elected officials and outside agencies; explain Public Works Department programs, policies, and activities; resolve sensitive issues, select, train, motivate and evaluate Public Works Department personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline proceedings. Planning, directing and coordinating the Public Works Department's work plan; meeting with staff to identify and resolving problems; assigning projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; review and evaluate work methods and procedures. Applicants must have five years of increasingly responsible public works experience including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. A Bachelor’s Degree and Professional Engineer Licenses highly desirable.
