The City of Milpitas is seeking an experienced, strategic, and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to lead the critical functions of the Purchasing Division within the Finance Department. This position is responsible for the oversight of two staff members and receives general direction from the Director of Finance. This exciting role holds great authority over all centralized purchasing activities of the City including the purchase of materials, supplies, and services, creating requests for bids and proposals, vendor contract administration, and reviewing vendor insurance requirements. The City emphasizes efficiency in the administration of all procurement activities and transitioned procurement onto internet-hosted technologies. The successful candidate will display enthusiasm for integrating the City’s novel technologies into the procurement process and engaging Citywide departments and buyers for enhanced procurement outcomes. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
 

The successful candidate will have proven leadership experience in purchasing, ideally for a city municipality. There is an emphasis on the highest level of compliance in the proceedings of the Purchasing Division. The incoming Purchasing Agent will understand the principles and practices of organization, administration, budget, and personnel management. They will exhibit a strong commitment to adhering to intricate processes and regulations, while delivering professional customer service throughout the bureaucratic landscape. They will be highly organized, detail-oriented, analytical, patient, and diligent to ensure compliance with all required procedures. As this position will interact with outside vendors and contractors, the ideal candidate for this position will be a professional, tactful, and personable communicator. They will represent the City relative to procurement with vendors, elected officials, management, other staff, and the general public.
